A photograph of an actual MITS Altair 8800 computer. As a computer buff, I was especially thrilled to see an actual model as opposed to just in photographs in various web sites and magazines. The MITS Altair computer was the base for the first commercial chess computer. It was also the computer that Bill Gates would program for when Microsoft first started.

By the way, this was one of the early models of hobby computers. People had to build it and then program the machine to perform tasks. Microsoft created a version of BASIC to use with the computer and from this humble beginning, Microsoft began and grew into the company that it is today.
