Here you see a picture of the front door that leads into the Manhattan
Chess Club. I had arrived at the New Yorker Hotel at 9 a.m. since the tournament
was supposed to start something like 11:00 a.m. or so and I did not want to
take a chance of not being able to find the room or being able to situate
myself with the surroundings. I had never been to the Manhattan Chess Club
and was not sure what the proper steps were to playing at the tournament plus
I wanted to take some pictures early before the matches would start.
When I arrived on the 15th floor as indicated by the listing in the first
floor lobby, I noticed on the directory located on the 15th floor that the
Manhattan Chess Club met in room 1521 but the door to the room was locked
at the time and when I knocked on the door, no one answered it. So I amused
myself by setting up my chess board on the floor next to the door and started
playing some games from the Chess Life Magazine that I had with me after I
got tired of taking pictures with the digital camera.
